Program Overview:

Each year approximately 300,000 Americans die of obesity-related disorders. Since 1991, the prevalence of obesity has increased by 61% in the US. This interactive program will explore the epidemiology and demographics of obesity and the related complications. In addition, it will discuss emerging management strategies such as surgery for patients whom have had suboptimal results utilizing other forms of weight loss including medical management.

Learning Objectives

After completing this activity, the participant will be able to:

  • Recognize the risk/benefit of surgical options for management of morbid obesity and evaluate postsurgical considerations such as: nutrition, early signs of potential complications, and potential lifelong use of dietary and nutritional supplements.
  • Recognize the effect of obesity on common metabolic and cardiovascular disorders, such as type 2 diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia, metabolic syndrome, hypertension, and coronary artery disease.

Method of Participation:

IIn order to receive CME credit for this activity, you need to review program.  Upon finishing the online CME, complete the post-test, evaluation, and fill out all required personal information. To receive your CME certificate you will need to pass the post-test with 70% accuracy or better.
