Program Overview:
Living with depression has a major impact on the productivity and overall quality of life for the sufferer. Currently 17 million people in the United States suffer with depression, and nearly 1 in 10 adults will have a major depressive disorder during their lives. Effective screening tools and communication with patients provides the opportunity to timely and accurately diagnose depression. Successful long term management of depression is the next challenge; stigma, choosing treatment options based on patient needs, and compliance issues all factor into effective treatment. This program will examine these issues with focus on improving strategies for successful depression treatment.
Learning Objectives
After completing this activity, the participant will be able to:
- Review the multiple symptoms of depression and recognize the differential diagnoses
- Formulate long-term management approaches for depression and address issues to maximize compliance to treatment
