Edward John Mayeaux, Jr, MD, is Professor of Family Medicine and Obstetrics & Gynecology, and Associate Family Practice Residency Program Director in the Department of Family Medicine at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine in Shreveport, Shreveport, LA.
Dr. Mayeaux’s areas of research interest include diagnosis and prevention of cervical cancer. His interests and areas of subspecialty include colposcopy and LEEP use and practice, use of the Papanicolaou smear in the prevention of cervical cancer, human papillomavirus diagnosis and treatment, endometrial biopsy, and patient education and literacy in pediatrics, family practice, and internal medicine.
Dr. Mayeaux received his BS in Microbiology at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge and his MD from Louisiana State University Medical Center in Shreveport, LA, where he began his career in the practice of family medicine. He has held several posts at the medical center, including Director of the LSUMC Dysplasia Center (Family Medicine and Ob/Gyn) and Chief Resident in the Department of Family Medicine.
Dr. Mayeaux has coauthored Atlas of Primary Care Procedures (with Thomas Zuber, MD). He has published over 20 research papers on various subjects in peer-reviewed journals and is a contributing author for several medical textbooks and monographs. Dr. Mayeaux served as a member of the Board of Directors of the American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology and President of the Northwest Louisiana Society of Family Physicians. Other professional affiliations include the American Academy of Family Physicians (Fellow), the Louisiana State Medical Society, and the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics.
