This 15 minute workshop will be held in conjunction with the Best Practices in Primary Care program. The workshops will be available during the breaks in between sessions of the program.
All physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants who want to learn more about ABI as a screening method for PAD.
This hands-on workshop will demonstrate the methods and protocols for utilizing Ankle Brachial Index (ABI) as a screening method for Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD). PAD is often called the “silent epidemic” because of its lack of symptoms, or mistaking the symptoms of the disease. The easiest way for early detection of PAD is through a simple test called Ankle Brachial Index (ABI). Technicians who are experts in performing ABI screening will demonstrate on program attendees the correct methods of ABI implementation. All attendees will have the opportunity to have the ABI performed on them, or observe the procedure being performed on their colleague.
- Understand the patients on which to utilize ABI screening, including high risk patients such as those over 70 and those over 50 with diabetes and who smoke
- Implement the procedure within the clinical setting utilizing proper methods and protocols
